Cover Your Own Behind!

This past year (2022), along with myself, a number of friends, acquaintances & associates had the unfortunate experience of a mother transitioning.

Among those that I've mentioned is one of my close friends. His mother made a well intended but ill-informed & poor decision of leaving her pastor & church a $4k donation upon her death, thinking that the other portion of her "menial" life insurance funds were going to cover "all" funeral & burial costs. The benefit funds did in fact cover funeral & burial costs, but did not cover her burial "marker" (i.e. headstone, grass plaque, etc.) costs....something which many families aren't aware are totally separate from burial costs & are costly. When the family (who was already on a strict budget) requested of the pastor to please appropriate the donation amount towards the burial marker instead of keeping it as a donation to the church, the "so-called" pastor "adamantly & coldly denied" the request & stated that the donation would be used as the mother desired, which was in support of his church's "so-called" ministry.........what a jerk! After posing dramatic gestures in front of her casket as if he cared about her......& after he gave her high praise when delivering her eulogy, his dramatic gestures & words ultimately meant nothing as he showed his true colors with his denial of the request. He with his denial not only did not represent what a Christian is, but he also did not at all represent being a decent fellow human being.

To the mother's credit, she was a faithful attending member of this church for almost six decades and a significantly contributing member who not only gave of her time and monetary resources in the form of tithes, diverse offerings, auxiliary dues and more...but she also operated as a significant fundraiser for this church. Despite all her service to this church, the pastor still ignored such at her death and chose to be selfish by dismissing the request the family presented him on the mother's behalf. He chose to run with the "technicality" that the mother gave the donation, rather than yielding "ideally morally and with humanity" to intercept and correct her mistake.....which is what a true pastor would do.

Also and more important to the mother's credit, her purpose & bottom line of her life insurance beneficiary funds was to ensure that “no one” had to deduct pocket money to attend any of her needs per funeral & burial upon her transition... however, the mother beforehand had not implemented "due diligence" of research, needed conversations with the family, & "finalizing" funeral, burial & "burial marker" plans before her transition, and therefore contributing to the manifestation of the drastic results of her mistake. Yes this so-called pastor could and should have yielded to intercept her mistake & simply make things right by appropriating the given donation amount towards her burial marker, but if all was properly in place initially by the mother, then there would have been no need for the family to present a request to this man.

I could certainly entitle this article....."Cold-Hearted-So-Called-Pastor Runs With Insurance Benefit Donation of Deceased Church Member & Rejects Request of Family to Appropriate Funds Towards Her Burial Marker"......or simply..... "Cold-Hearted-So-Called-Pastor Shows His True Colors"; but the more important & ultimate message is to "COVER YOUR OWN BEHIND" ...by doing your own due diligence to ensure that your business is covered "before" the instance of death. Have the needed conversations & lock down the prices with the funeral home & cemetery beforehand as much as possible....& please don't designate any type of donation to be distributed until a year or so proceeding your death in case an underlying cost pertaining to your life presents itself to those who are left to attend your business matters. Please do yourself & everyone who loves you the favor of "COVERING YOUR OWN BEHIND"!!!!!!
